Young Parents: Support, Mentorship, and Resources Available in Cape Girardeau County

Are you pregnant or parenting a child under the age of three? If you are 26 or younger and live in Cape Girardeau County, the Missouri Mentoring Partnership (MMP) Young Parent Program is here to support you.

Parenthood is rewarding, but it can also be challenging, especially while balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities. That is why CPSEMO’s THRIVE Birth to Five Program is proud to offer the MMP Young Parent Program. This initiative is designed to provide young parents with practical tools, guidance, and a community of support to help them thrive.

For enrollment, call or text Tina Trost, MMP Senior Young Parent Specialist, at (573) 914-9601.

What the Young Parent Program Offers

This program provides more than just classes. It is a comprehensive support system tailored to young parents.

  • Monthly home visits with staff for personalized guidance

  • Parenting skills workshops on pregnancy, child development, car seat safety, immunizations, and more

  • Monthly group support meetings with other young parents

  • One-on-one mentorship with a caring adult mentor who offers encouragement, support, and life experience

  • Family activities and community events throughout the year

Earn While You Learn

Participation in the program comes with practical benefits. Parents earn MMP "Baby Bucks" that can be redeemed for diapers, formula, clothes, toys, books, and other essentials. Families also receive a $100 safety incentive that can be used toward items such as car seats, pack-and-plays, or high chairs.

This means that every meeting, workshop, and home visit not only provides knowledge and support but also tangible resources for your family.

Building a Stronger Future

The Missouri Mentoring Partnership Young Parent Program helps young parents to:

  • Develop effective parenting skills

  • Stay on track with education and career goals, including support with completing high school or GED

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle

  • Keep children’s health and immunizations up-to-date

  • Build relationships with supportive mentors and peers

Stay Connected and Involved

The program also offers ongoing events and opportunities to connect with other families. From holiday gatherings to community resource fairs, these events provide both learning and fun for young parents and their children.
