A Legacy of Serving the Community

Red Star Food Pantry has been serving families in Cape Girardeau since the summer of 1993, when several unexpected tractor-trailer loads of food and household supplies arrived in the community and Red Star Baptist Church stepped forward to help distribute them. What began as a small church ministry serving fewer than 70 families each month grew into a longstanding resource for individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Over the years, Red Star expanded its capacity through significant grants, including funding from the Missouri Foundation for Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These investments helped improve food storage, technology, heating and cooling systems, and emergency preparedness while also allowing the pantry to provide healthier food options for families living with chronic health conditions.

In 2020, Red Star Food Pantry became an independent organization and began operating from its current location at 361 Country Club Drive. Since then, Red Star has continued to grow its network of community partnerships, including food rescue relationships with the Cape Girardeau Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club. These partnerships allow Red Star to recover thousands of pounds of food and household items each month and distribute them to families and individuals throughout the community.

Today, Red Star Food Pantry is proud to become part of Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri (CPSEMO). Together, we are committed to sustaining and strengthening this important resource so Red Star can continue serving families in our community for generations to come.
